Wittering Bowls Club
Playing Fields, Townsend Road, Wittering, PE8 6AB (opposite the Camp gate and beside the Sports and Social Club)
Wittering Bowls Club was formed in 1969 and entered the Stamford & District Bowls League in 1970. The club won the league for the first time in 1975 and then held the title until 1980 (except in the season of 1977, which was suspended due to very dry weather). We were subsequently the league winners again in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1991 and 1994 and last held the title in 1995.
Having been relegated to Division 2 in 2009, we won the division the following year in 2010 and were promoted back to Division 1. After again being relegated in 2018, we had the same outcome, winning the division in 2019, gaining promotion for the 2022 season.
The club did have 3 teams in the late 80s and early 90s; in recent years we have had only one team in the league.
Mick Smith, who has been a member since 1970, became the Under 25 Federation Singles Champion in 1974.
The club held its 50th anniversary celebration on Sunday the 23rd June 2019.
At present, we have about 18 members enjoying the game and the camaraderie of our fellow bowlers in all the other teams in the Stamford & District Bowls League.
