Langtoft Bowls Club
Sports Pavilion, Manor Close, Langtoft, PE6 9NB
Langtoft Bowls Club was formed as a carpet bowls club in 1988. In 1991 SKDC constructed our green on the recreation ground in the village and in 1992 the club joined the Stamford League to play outdoor bowls. The following year 1993 we won Division Two and since then teams from the club have won the Rose Bowl five times, the Boor and Wainwright six times, and the Duncomb Shield twice. We have also been divisional champions on five different occasions.
In 2003, following a decision by Pearl Insurance to close its operation in Peterborough, their bowls club found itself without a green to play on, and they approached us to ask if they could share our facilities. This was agreed and in 2004 season Pearl Bowls Club shared the green at Langtoft. In 2005 the two clubs decide to amalgamate and became known as Langtoft Pearl Bowls Club. Several of our current members have been with the Club since day one back in 1992 and four were members of Pearl when the transition occurred. At the end of 2022, it was decided to rename the club Langtoft Bowls Club.
Over the years the Club has had a good number of its members reach the finals of the NBF National championships at Skegness. Maureen Montgomery, Jane Bridges and Anne White were the first club members to do so when they were runners up in the Ladies Triples in 2007. In 2010 one of the Club’s founder members Peter White, won the Men’s Senior Singles. This was the same year that our Club was honoured when another of its founder members Richard Montgomery, was elected NBF National President. More recently Sue Moir came within one shot of becoming Ladies Two Bowl Singles champion in 2019.
Our green is kept in excellent condition by our hard working Green Manager and his team. This was recognised in 2021 when we were asked to stage a County match between Northants and Huntingdonshire.
The Club currently have one team in Division One of the Stamford League and one team in each of the Peterborough Midweek, Weekend and Over 55s leagues. We also run our own internal league when matches are played on Thursday afternoons.
We hold coffee mornings every Wednesday morning throughout the year. Everyone is welcome and during the season there is the opportunity for members and anyone interested in taking up the game to have tuition and take part in friendly ‘roll-ups’.
The social side of our Club is extremely important to us and members along with friends enjoy theatre trips and visits to other places of interest.
Like all clubs we are always looking for new members to take part in our sport either socially or competitively. Anyone interested in joining or would like to know more about our Club should contact:
