No one knows the exact date when bowling started on our Lincoln Road site, but it was certainly taking place in the 1930s. The current green was relaid in the early 1950s and is now looked after by Avonmore Associates. It is without doubt considered to be one of the best playing surfaces in the area.
Blackstones Bowls Club is a section of the Blackstones Sports and Social Club, which also provides football, netball and the usual pub games to its members. It holds entertainment nights and bingo in the clubhouse. The Bowls Club has 60 playing members and has two teams in the Stamford League 1st Division, one of which held the league champion trophy in 2019, and one in the third division. The Club also has teams in the Peterborough League Club 60 Premier League, the Premier Weekend League and we have a team in the 3rd Division of the Midweek League. One of the Club’s teams, captained by Jon Earl, retained the Dan Duffy Trophy in 2021 and will represent Northants EBF in the Durham Centenary Trophy in 2022. The Club is usually well represented in the National Finals and over the years has had several National Champions.
The club will be holding its annual Bet Vellam Rosebowl Gala on Sunday 8th September 2024.
The Club provides both friendly and competitive bowling and makes new members very welcome.
