President's Triples Final: Sunday 1st September

The final of the inaugural President’s Triples competition was played on  at Market Overton Bowls Club.This is a new League competition, with the trophy donated by Stamford League President Rita Downs. The finalists were Malcolm Mann, Jonathan Corby and Bernard Crouch, from Empingham, and Ally McNaughton, Dave Pusch and Mike Anderson, from Wittering.

Wittering pulled ahead initially, but Empingham equalised with the score at 4 - 4 after the 4th end. After levelling the score once again after 6 ends, Wittering then took the lead, leaving Empingham on 6 points for the next 6 ends, bringing the score to 14 – 6 after 11 ends. Empingham began to fight back, but it was too late; Wittering countered their every move, and the final score was Wittering 21 – Empingham 12.

Secretary's Pairs Final: Sunday 1st September

The Secretary’s Pairs final was also played at Market Overton BC on Sunday 1st September. The finalists were Rita Downs and Martyn Dolby, from Blackstones BC, and Graham Patrickson and John Holroyd, from Stamford Town BC. 

The Blackstones pair took an early lead but, after equalising in the 4th end, Stamford Town put relentless pressure on their opposition, until they were 11 – 8 up after 12 ends. Blackstones then scored a 4, in what could have been a pivotal stage in the match, but Stamford Town renewed their efforts, allowing Blackstones to score only one more point in the last 5 ends. The final result was a victory for Graham Patrickson and John Holroyd by 18 – 13.
