Stamford & District Bowls League Home

Welcome to the Stamford & District Bowls League website.

We hope you will find the information here interesting and useful  - look around the website to find out more about the League.

The Stamford & District Bowls League has been promoting inter-club bowling in the local area since 1967. The League itself operates on two evenings a week – Mondays and Fridays. For 2024, we have 27 teams who will compete in three divisions.

As well as the twice-weekly league matches, we run four competitions - the Boor & Wainwright Shield, the Duncomb Shield, the Oddfellows Charity Rosebowl competition and the Secretary’s Pairs competition. There is also the President's Gala, which supports the President's chosen charity for that year. For this season, 2024, we will also be running a new competition - the President’s Triples competition.

In addition to the details of the fixtures and results, you will find profiles of each club, the league's rules and constitution and a short history of the league. There is also a Photo Gallery, a Club News page and an Events Diary; we hope you will let us know about events at your club that would interest other bowlers.

John Hare: stalwart of Wittering Bowls Club

Bowlers are mourning the sudden death of Wittering Bowls Club stalwart John Hare (78). Not only was he club chairman, but he had been its greenkeeper for nearly 30 years. He was also a member of Peterborough Parkway and was a regular player for Stamford Indoor Bowls Club's 'B' and mixed teams. A widower, who had retired from a career in engineering, he leaves a son and a daughter. Bob Warters.
